"Coastal Grandmother" is a way of life...not a trend.

My Coastal Grandmother Story

You may have heard of the Coastal Grandmother fad that is sweeping the nation and is even a Tik Tok trend. However, to a lot of us, this “trend” is actually a way of life. It is something we have been doing for years. When I heard all about what it means to be a CG (Coastal Granny) I immediately felt like I finally found my people. Since I was in college I have always felt a little different than my friends. I loved listening to jazz and French cafe music and would look through my favorite Pottery Barn catalogs while watching Nancy Myers movies dreaming about designing my own home as perfect as the homes in her movies. Fast forward to almost 20 years later and I still love the homes from Something’s Gotta Give and It's Complicated. My goal as an artist is to create art that would look great in the spaces that Nancy Myers designed in her movies.

How I Decorate like a CG (Coastal Granny)

My favorite ways to decorate with this coastal vibe is through a couple of items. These items include neutral fabrics, rattan, blue and white vases, coffee table books, fresh flowers, baskets, beach treasures like sea glass and beach rocks and of course I love using art.

Fresh hydrangeas from the garden add life to the space. The blue and white vases give a coastal vibe to the otherwise neutral space. I also love the rattan place mats to give texture to the table.

I love using trays especially ones that have a texture to them like this one pictured. A fun French vocabulary book adds some color to the set up. My favorite candle is ready to be lit to create a cozy atmosphere.

I adore collecting objects from my travels like this bowl filled with shells and beach stones from my family’s cottage and recently from a trip to Malibu. More fresh flowers and neutral decor give the turquoise vase room to shine.

A large original statement artwork is a great way to add some flair to your home. Here I am with one of my large white hydrangea paintings.

Crisp navy and white artwork add a pop of color to a neutral home. My love of sailing has inspired me to paint a lot of sail boat paintings over the years.

My favorite combo if you have not noticed is neutral colors with a pop of blue and white. Here is my porch, my favorite place to sit and have coffee in the morning.

If you want more color in your home I suggest adding it through colorful, yet still muted artworks. Here is one of my coastal floral paintings that add a bit of color to this space along with the navy and white vase.
