Blue and White Lake House Inspiration

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you are having a great April 1st. We recently came back from a week in Florida and it was so fun. Missing the warmth and sunshine today in Ohio especially since it is rainy and very windy. Oh well…summer will be here soon!

Building a Home On an island

So, we have a couple of exciting things happening here in the Brunner household. First I have a huge collection releasing in May with Cailini Coastal (UPDATE…all sold out! Thank you!) Also, we are in the process of building our own lake house on an island in the middle of Lake Erie. I am so over the moon about it! We are working with a prefab house company because building on an island creates a lot of challenges. The home will come built in 4 different sections. The four sections will come across on the ferry and then will be joined together once the house is on the foundation. My husband has spent countless hours doing research, calling companies, designing the house (he used plans from the company’s website but tweaked it for our needs.) to get this rolling . It has been a long and tedious process but finally it is happening this spring/summer. I will definitely post more with details here as we begin. I even started a new instagram account called coastal_ohio_living to document our journey to building on an island.

Lake House Decor

My focus of course has been on how I will be decorating this new lake house. I will definitely be creating some custom paintings for it. I have a couple that I am working on now for my May release that I might recreate for our home. Our design scheme so far is very bright and airy. Our flooring is a very light wood called Malibu Wide Plank Rincon French Oak (I swear we are not buying it just for the name lol!) We will have all white trim and cabinets and we are having accents of gold in our hardware which I am excited about! Furniture will be light neutrals as well. The artwork will probably have the most color and that will most likely be blues, whites and greens.

Blue and White Coastal Style

So here are some of my ideas for some paintings for this lake home seen in the photos below. I love how the colors are the same as the lake and the gorgeous hydrangeas most of my neighbors have. We are definitely planting lots and lots of hydrangeas around the house hopefully this fall or next spring. The gardens of our neighbors nearby are incredible and I want ours to look like it belongs in this special part of the island.

Part of my new collection releasing in May. These are paintings I would put in my lake home also.

I will continue to update you as this process unfolds. If you have any questions let me know about building on an island. My parents did this 12 years ago on the same island so we at least have them for moral support! I can’t wait to finally have an island studio as well! Have a great weekend!

XO,

Michelle
